Romance Writers Weekly ~ Misunderstandings

#lovechatwrite

Welcome to the blog hop! I can’t believe how wacky this weather has been. It was super warm last week, then the weekend was frigid with rain and wind, now we’re headed into super warm again. I’m ready for a single warm temperature, especially with me being in the water with all the kids, I get cold!

Here’s our topic for today: What common mistakes or misunderstandings do readers have about authors? What myths or half-truths do you find yourself hearing again and again?

I think one of the main misunderstandings that readers have about authors is about how long it takes to write a book. Somedays are very good days and you can get many thousands of words in and other days you sit, type, delete and type the same sentence over and over again.

Also readers think the inspiration just flows out of writers in spades. That doesn’t always happen. You have to sit and put pen to paper even on those days you don’t want to. If you don’t start, you’ll never be able to write a book/short story/poem. It’s an act of will to sit down and write everyday.

One of my favourite writing quotes is this one: “Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can see only as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.” -E. L. Doctorow

That’s it for me today, now continue on the hop to see what the incredible Brenda Margriet has to say. Remember – just keep writing. Until next time!

Don’t forget to grab this great deal from Brenda Margriet. I love this series and I know you will too!
