Romance Writers Weekly ~ Holiday Eats and Treats

It’s almost Christmas! Have you finished your shopping? I’m almost done. I just have a couple of things left to get. Little stocking stuffers here and there and I need to make the holiday cookies.

If you missed what the wonderful PG Forte had to say, just click and pop back.

Today we share our favourite seasonal recipe. What meal/dessert/treat is a must have on your table at this time of year?

Oh I love this time of year for treats and appetizers! I’ve been baking the family holiday cookies for many years now and it’s hard to stop at just one. I make thumbprints, nanaimo bars, almond roca (without the nuts for my kids), snickerdoodles and moose farts. I give some to my neighbors and eat way too many for myself!

My dad makes the most amazing clam dip. I’ve tried to replicate the recipe and it’s just never as good as his. He also makes chex mix which is a recipe my grandma used to make. These are the recipes that only come out around the holidays.

The one I’ll share with you today comes from my time in St. John’s. They are moose farts! Delicious little balls with mini chocolate chips, coconut and covered in graham cracker crumbs. Enjoy, these are delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk 14 oz
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups dried coconut fine/medium cut
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips
  • additional graham cracker crumbs for rolling

Instructions:

  1. Melt butter and combine with sweetened condensed milk and vanilla until well blended.
  2. Add the graham cracker crumbs, coconut and chocolate chips. Mix to combine well.
  3. Refrigerate for an hour or so before rolling mixture into 1 1/4 inch balls. Make them on the smallish side.
  4. Roll balls in additional crumbs and chill until firm. Refrigerate in sealed container to store.

Well that’s it for me today. Now continue on the hop to see what favourite meal or dessert the incredible Brenda Margriet has to share. Until next time!
