Romance Writers Weekly ~ Gift Giving Time

Hello everyone! It’s that busy time of year where all the family is trying to get together to do fun things and celebrate Christmas. We got to celebrate a little (well a lot) earlier with my in-laws because they flew to Maui today for Christmas and New Year. Yesterday was Christmas! We went ice skating, drank hot chocolate, made gingerbread cookies and opened some presents. It was a really great time.

I’m in the middle of addressing all of our holiday cards. I usually write a letter as well, but for some reason this year it’s been hard to come up with something to say. If you ever want a holiday card, comment below!

It’s gift-giving time! Share books that would make great presents (for authors or readers) or other book-related gifts.

I love giving books as presents! During Christmas I will usually give a book that I’ve read during the year. I think my favourite book I read this year was The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. It was all about choices and what if we had made a different choice in our life. Where would our path be now? I think it really resonated with me because I feel like I’m at a weird point in my life and I don’t quite know what to do. It was a very interesting read for me and I know that I will keep recommending that book and reread it.

I’ve gone to the bookstore and asked a salesperson what their favourite book of the year was or if there was a book that had been bought the most. Depending on what the flap says, I’ll give it as a gift. I bought Beyond The Wand by Tom Felton for my sister. I really enjoyed his biography and everything Harry Potter. I keep recommending Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry. I read it before he sadly passed away and now I want to read it again. I grew up on Friends and he was my favourite character.

I love finding book related gifts for presents. I’ve made bookmarks, coasters for coffee or wine, and I’ve found some cool reading lights. Last year I made this amazing book wreath. I made it out of pages from Pride and Prejudice that I picked up at a used book shop. I spent the time rolling the pages and gluing them around in a circle. This year I made a set of cloth pumpkins. One pumpkin is covered in cloth with grapes on the vine (because we like to have wine at our book club.) The other pumpkin is a cream colored cloth and they are both topped with wine corks. I think the last thing I’m going to add is a covered up book. I found them at the book store the other day. They are covered so you don’t know what the book is. On the top they have five or six one words about the book. I know I would love to get that as a present.

Well that’s it for me today. Continue on the hop to see what books the inspiring Leslie Hachtel likes to gift. Until next time!
