Romance Writers Weekly – Winter Doldrums

Hello and welcome to the blog hop! I hope everyone isn’t too cold out there. We are back in California now, which is a drastic difference from Newfoundland. We’ve maybe gotten down to zero overnight, maybe… and our highs have been around 15 which is considered warm this time of year in other parts of the world. Our topic today is about winter.

If you missed what the talented Brenda Margriet had to say, just click and pop back. Today the lovely Leslie Hachtel asks us:

It’s the middle of the winter and the lack of sunlight and the cold (for many of us) is difficult. What do you do to get out of the doldrums?
When we lived in St. John’s, we got out everyday no matter what. (Well not if there was a snowstorm!) I hate to be stuck inside for too long so we would always go out and hike or snowshoe, or shovel. I think that’s the important part, always make sure you are doing something.
I do love to read a lot in the wintertime. I think I go through more books when it’s cold outside than when it is warm. It’s so nice to just curl up on the couch and read. I’m lucky, there is a bookstore about 8 minutes away from my house so I always pop in during the “colder” months to sip coffee and turn pages.
Now in California there is a lot of sun! The past two weeks have been very dark and gray, but for some reason it hasn’t bothered me. Perhaps, I am used to when we lived elsewhere and didn’t have a summer at all. You can tell the rainy, cool weather has an effect on people’s moods here. If they don’t see the sun they turn into big huge grumps.
I also like to watch movies to keep me from winter blues! There are a lot of good movies out there and sometimes I just like to sit back and watch a comedy, drama, romantic comedy or action.
Getting together with friends always helps get me out of the doldrums. It’s nice to sit at a coffee shop or go to someone’s house and let the kids play while we get to talk. Friends can always cheer you up, even if you are talking about the horrible weather.
So what does the incredible Leslie do to stay happy in the winter months? Continue on the hop and find out. Until next time!
