Romance Writer’s Weekly – Tips for Writer’s Block

Hello and welcome to the blog hop! It’s nice to sit in front of the computer and relax as I’ve just spent my whole Saturday running up and down hills, through mud and over walls and other obstacles. My husband and I competed in an eight mile Spartan Race. It was tough but fun!

I’ve provided the topic for the blog hop this week and if you’ve missed what the talented Brenda Margriet had to say, just click and pop back. Today I ask:

What do you do when writer’s block hits? Share some tips for our fellow writers.

I’m sure everyone has had writer’s block at some point in their writing career, you wouldn’t be a writer if you didn’t. It’s happened to me more times then I can count. So what do I do? Sometimes I take a short break and do some stretches, get a coffee or fresh lemonade. Other times I find a good book, even one I’ve read before and immerse myself in the dialogue and characters. A lot of times that helps.

Occasionally, if it’s really bad I will have to step away from my manuscript and focus on something completely different. Sometimes I won’t write for a couple of days, but then I will get the itch and my story will come flooding out again.

Music is a great help, I like to listen to classical music when I write. I notice a difference when there is no music. Then there are some days when the music doesn’t help me at all. It all depends on what scene I’m trying to write.

Writer’s block can be devastating to some but it can also lead to some interesting stories, you start off with one story and it ends very differently. Let’s continue on the hop and see what my fellow authors do when they are stuck.  The lovely Xio Axelrod is next, bye for now!
