Welcome to the Romance Writer’s Weekly blog hop! We are a group of writers spreading romance out into the world. If you missed what the lovely A.S. Fenichel had to say just click and pop back. This week fellow author S. C. Mitchell asks us:

Think back to that day you first decided you were going to write a book/story. Tell us about what led you to start putting those first words on the page.

I had just moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland. We were shrouded in RDF (rain, drizzle, fog.) I needed something to do. One of my friends from the newcomers group asked if I wanted to take a writing class with her. For one night a week, myself and four other people came together to talk about writing. We brainstormed ideas and talked about characters and plot. At the end of each session we were told to write a page or two of something that was in our mind.

I’ve always loved reading and thought one day I would write something. I’ve written poetry for years, now it was time to start something new. Romance called to me when I was in late high school and I needed an escape. Ever since then, I’ve been bitten by the romance bug.

I knew I wanted to write a romance novel. Since I was in St. John’s I thought it would be a perfect place to set my novel. As I was exploring my new surroundings, I put some of my excitement and wonder into the novel. It started slow, just a few pages, then a few chapters at a time. Aaaaand I was hooked!

After that class I took 3 more. I met great authors I can call my friends and I joined a group of romance writers from Newfoundland. I had an amazing teacher and he still does online sessions of his classes which is great.

Since that first writing class I knew I had to keep writing and finish my novel. It took a long time, it took about 5 years for me to complete it. Some days were really hard and I couldn’t write at all, others words flowed out of me. It was worth all the time and pain.

I’m happy to say Wrongfully Wed is finished and now in the editing process! I can’t wait to share my novel with you all and continue writing more.

Thanks for following along, you can now continue on the hop and see what our other newcomer Dee Kelly has to say. Until next time!
