Romance Writers Weekly ~ New Activities

Hi everyone, I hope everyone is doing well. Last weekend we had dry lightening! It was crazy, I’ve never heard thunder or seen lightening like this before. Unfortunately, it created fires all over California. Now we can’t even go outside because the air quality is so horrible.

If you missed what the incredible Caro Kinkead had to say, just click and pop back.

Today the wonderful Leslie Hachtel asks us:

Have you tried any new activity lately? Learn to sew, garden, paint, cook? Binge watch TV? And how is your new hobby helping your writing?

In the beginning when we couldn’t go anywhere at all, I cleaned. We went through our garage, closets and rooms. Then we got some things for the house. My husband and I put up a new entryway light and it looks awesome!

Then when we could go into a few stores, I got flour and yeast to bake bread. One of our really good friends from Canada gave me a fantastic recipe that only has flour, salt, yeast and water. It is delicious!! I also baked muffins, cookies and scones.

I bought some wallpaper for our laundry room, but I haven’t had the chance to put it up yet. I have to find a time when my daughter is down for a nap and my son can play outside. That way I will have uninterrupted time to put it all up at the same time.

Since all this started I’ve entered a couple of writing contests. They have been really fun! I wrote one about a woman flying on a plane for the first time, one on isolation, one horror, and one 100 word flash fiction. I think that one was the hardest! Trying to fit a good hook with a beginning and end was challenging, but fun! I have another writing contest coming up this weekend. In 48 hours I have to write 1,000 words and have it all polished and ready to go. They will give me a genre, a location and object that must be in the story. It usually ends up with me staying up late after everyone else has gone to bed. However, this is the only writing I have time for. I haven’t been able to catch enough time to work on my novel.

Now onto binging TV shows! We finished all of these so far. We LOVED Schitt’s Creek, Santa Clarita Diet and Cursed. They were all soooo good! If you haven’t seen those, you must check them out! We have a few others in our queue like IT Crowd, Derry Girls and Madalorian. I can’t wait for those.

That’s it for me today. Now continue on the hop to see what the talented Leslie Hachtel has kept herself busy with. Until next time!
