Welcome to the blog hop! If you missed what wonderful Leslie Hachtel had to say, just click and pop back. Today the incredible A.S. Fenichel asks us:
Do you keep a journal? Why? Why not? What kind of things to you write: personal, writerly, vague or stream of consciousness? If you want to share a journal entry, we’d love to know your innermost thoughts. If you don’t keep one and you want to make one up, that’s cool too.
Yes I do keep a journal. I’ve kept one for a very long time. I think I started one in junior high or high school. I needed a place where I could keep my thoughts straight and write down what I could tell no one else.
In my younger days it was about boys, friends, the unfairness of parents among many other things. Then as I got older it was mostly about things that happened in my life, some depressing things, others very happy. I always feel better when I write, but these past months I haven’t had/made the time. I have to decide to either work on my novel or write in my journal. Most of the time working on my novel has won.
I do need to get back into writing my thoughts down. Even if it is only a few sentences a day or a couple pages a week. It’s better for me to get my thoughts out, then keep them in.
You wanted a sample, here is one from a couple of years ago when I started a new journal:
Well look at this- new journal! Whooo! And I’m in London, England!! It is so amazing and beautiful here! Right now we are in Greenwich because Chris has a conference for 3 days. So we left St. John’s Sunday night at 9p then got to Halifax at 11:30p or so and then we left for London on the overnight flight. It was 5 hours long but I probably only got 3 hours on and off, so not great. We landed in London around 8:55a and that was pretty ok but by this time we were exhausted! We still had to take the Tube to our hotel and that took an hour. When we finally got off we were a little lost so we asked someone where we had to go and he told us that we had gotten off at the wrong station. By this time we just decided to take a cab because we couldn’t really find our way to the hotel. So we got a cab and made it to the Premier Inn Hotel. We go to check in around noon but they said check in is not until 2p. We put our suitcases away in their holding room and take our backpack and my purse to walk around and get some lunch. Well we walk around for quite some time and enjoy all the sights and sounds we see. We find a cafe for lunch and get yummy sandwiches and share some chips (fries) then walk around a little more by the water front. After 3 hours we decide to head back because we both haven’t showered yet and are very tired. We get into our room and it’s just a nice little room with a bed, desk, chair, bathroom with a tub and shower. Anyway we get into our room and took a shower then put on the tv for a little bit, but then we fell asleep for about an hour or so and woke up to go get dinner and it was yummy, delicious and amazing! We had vegetarian wellington! So yummy! It was spinach, mushroom and cheese baked in a yummy flaky crust surrounded by veggies and potatoes. Great! After we went back upstairs got pj’s on and hung out in bed and actually fell asleep really, really early.
Does the amazing A.S. Fenichel keep a journal? Continue on the hop and find out! Until next time.
