Welcome to the blog hop! I hope everyone is enjoying their day. If you missed what the talented Dani Jace had to say, just click and pop back. Today on the blog hop the amazing Leslie Hachtel asks us to write a flash fiction. Here is her topic:
Flash fiction time! 500 words using the words carousel, mud and wine.
The poster lay on the ground covered in leaves, mud and tire tracks. The colourful markings on it had caught her eye, otherwise she would have just passed over it. Eve reached for it and brushed away the debris. The carousel was awash in the most brilliant colours she had ever seen. Bright greens, purples and yellows jumped out at her. There were no circuses in town so where did this lone carousel come from? Eve lifted the crumpled paper, the day read today’s date at noon in Rosefeld Park. She knew then she had to go and find it. Her friend Rowe would think she was crazy for wanting to go see something so mundane. However, it held an air of mystery to it. Eve glanced at her watch, damn she was going to be late! How would she get her groceries, coffee and meet up with Rowe before noon?
The clock struck eleven in the morning as Eve rushed into the Tall Beans coffee house. Rowe sat at their favourite corner table with two steaming drinks. As she made her way to the back of the room, she bumped into someone.
“I’m terribly sorry,” Eve said.
“Nothing to worry about. Enjoy your coffee. I’ll see you soon,” replied a deep voice.
Chills ran along Eve’s spine as she glanced up to see who she’d ran into, but there was no one there.
Eve sat down in a daze. “Did you see the man I bumped into? I’ve never met him before, yet he told me he would see me soon. How strange is that?”
“Are you feeling okay? You ran into a table not a man. Maybe you need something stronger than coffee, let’s get a glass of wine.”
“I’ve been in such a hurry this morning that I must have imagined it. I wanted to show you this poster I found this morning. I think we should go.” Eve pulled the wrinkled paper from her pocket and held it out.
Rowe eyed the paper in distaste. “Did you pull that from a dumpster? Just look at the state it’s in. Why would you want to go to some carousel, are you trying to release your inner child?”
“I feel a pull towards it. Come with me, please?” begged Eve.
“I can’t today,” replied Rowe.
“I’ll go by myself then,” stated Eve as shook took a sip of her wine. Something told her she needed to go.
Eve left the coffee shop and made her way to Rosefeld Park. Faint music sounded as she stepped onto the grass. There in the distance was the beautiful carousel she’d seen in the poster.
More than just horses circled the perimeter, peacocks and swans with elegant jewels were also present. Some seats were swings with golden chains holding them up. In the center of the carousel was a ticket box and a man who held a ticket out to her.
Eve walked toward him and when their hands touched, she knew the rest of her life would be changed forever.
That’s it for me today! I hope you enjoyed this quick flash fiction. I always enjoy writing these. The words seemed to flow today and maybe I can make something more of this. Now continue on the hop to see what the incredible Leslie Hachtel wrote about. Until next time!
