Romance Writers Weekly – Words, Words and More Lovely Words.

Happy Tuesday and welcome to our blog hop! If you missed what the incredible Brenda Margriet had to say just click and pop back.

Today the lovely Brenda asks us:

It may seem obvious, but writers love words. And most of us have our favourites. Give examples of your favourite words (the more unusual the better). Have you ever made up a word because there just isn’t one that describes exactly what you want to say?

Well going through all of my edits I know I like to put a lot of description into people and surroundings. Sometimes too much… I’ll mention the same thing again and again. It’s something I need to work on, but I do like to describe my hero and heroine.

The more I write, I find phrases I like to reuse. Ex: running hand through her hair/his hair. I’m not sure I have a favourite word I like to use. I will have to look back through my writing to see if I do share some favouritism to certain words.

I was curious to see if any other authors had favourite words and found Jane Austen liked to use “with all my heart,” Dan Brown likes to use “full circle,” Stephanie Meyer uses “sighs of relief,” James Patterson has “believe it or not” and J.K. Rowling uses: “dead of night.”

So it was interesting to see the favourite words of authors. Or at least the ones they use the most.

I’ve never had to make up a word before, but now I kind of want to!

I can’t wait to see what words my fellow writers prefer! Now continue on the hop to the wonderful A.S. Fenichel and see what she has to say. Until next time.
