Today the wonderful Leslie Hatchel asks us: How did you pick the genre (s) you write? Or did they pick you?
Great question Leslie! I think romance picked me. Ever since I joined a writing group five years ago I just knew historical romance is what I wanted to write. I’ve read romance novels ever since high school and they always kind of stuck with me. Don’t get me wrong I’ve read many other genres and I love most of them. I’m a big fan of Young Adult Fiction and will definitely read any I come across that catch my interest.
I often think I could write another genre, maybe even branch out in my own genre to contemporary romance. Sometimes writing Young Adult strikes my thoughts but I don’t know if I have enough amazing ideas in my head like all the other YA novelists do. Some stories are just so incredible with the imagination and excitement these authors bring to the paper.
I’ll stick to writing historical romance for right now. However, in the next couple of months after I finish my debut novel and prequel novella I might try my hand at writing a contemporary romance. In this case romance chose me and I love to write it!
