Romance Writers Weekly ~ Writing Journey

Thanks for joining me this week. I’m so excited the 49ers are in the SuperBowl! It was an exciting, tense game to watch and it will be fun to see them in the big game. If you missed what the talented PG Forte had to say, just click and pop back.

This week on the hop we’re asked “How has your writing journey changed over time?

I started off just writing poetry. It didn’t even occur to me to write a novel or even a short story. When I moved to Canada and couldn’t work yet, I decided to take a writing course and I absolutely loved it. I started with my first novel and I was hooked.

I’ve since joined NYC Midnight and every year I compete in the 100, 250 and 500 micro flash fiction, short story, and rhyming challenge. These contests have kept me on my toes, you are assigned a genre, subject and word, then you write on. Now I have a collection of stories that I would love to put in a book and get published.

My writing journey has definitely been a slow one. I don’t seem to have three or four stories a year in my head like some authors do. I’m in awe of the authors that can do that. My goal this year is to write a new novel. However, my brain seems devoid of all ideas. I have no idea how to find some new story ideas.

I will keep on doing the writing contests and maybe one of the short stories will prompt me to continue it into a full length novel.

Well that’s it for me today, time to leap forward and find some new ideas. Now continue on the hop to see how the wonderful Brenda Margriet’s writing journey has changed over time. And don’t forget to check out her book Reserved for You. Until next time!
