Romance Writers Weekly ~ Writing Journey

Welcome back to the blog hop! The kids are back to school and I’m crossing my fingers they will stay in school. I don’t think I can handle distance learning again. It was rough! This week I’m determined to get some house chores done. Like rearrange the furniture back to where it was before the Christmas tree, go through old files and put them away in boxes, and purge the toys/clothes/books we no longer need!

If you missed what the talented Leslie Hachtel had to say, just click and pop back.

Today’s topic is: How did you get to where you are today? Share the story of your professional journey, the roadblocks you encountered along the way, and your strategy for overcoming those obstacles.

It’s been a long road to get to where I am today. I don’t have as many published books as my other author friends, but I’ve been working hard. My journey started by writing poetry. I love to write poetry, it really helps to clear my mind sometimes.

When I moved to St. John’s I couldn’t work. I met a couple of friends and one of them had joined a writing class. I took a chance and began writing a regency romance. It took me a long time but I finally finished it. It still needs to be edited but it’s done and it’s mine.

I wrote a regency novella that was published in an anthology and now I want to revamp the cover and self publish it. I’ve since written many short stories and flash fictions. I want to put together a book of all the shorts and flash fictions.

The biggest roadblock that I’ve hit is writers block. I’ve been able to enter short story contests but I’ve not been able to write anything of my own for over two years. I don’t know why. It’s been extremely difficult, especially when I see other authors popping out three or so books a year. It’s just hard but I keep going.

Some of the strategies I’ve employed to overcome writers block is to keep entering writing contests. I’m hoping that one of those genres or topics will set me off and then I will be able to roll.

That’s it for me today, now continue on the hop to see the incredible Clair Brett’s journey. Until next time!
