Romance Writers Weekly – Would You Rather Cooking Edition

Hello and welcome to the blog hop! I hope everyone has enjoyed watching the Olympics, I know I am. I love seeing countries that have never won a medal before, win a gold!

Unique in what we write, we all come together for romance. I’ve provided the topic for this week, so if you missed what the incredible Leslie Hachtel had to say, just click and pop back.

Today I ask my fellow authors: Would You Rather Cooking Edition: 1) Cut out butter forever or sugar?

2) Have a normal size oven that heats inconsistently or have a toaster oven that bakes everything perfectly?

3) Make something beautiful that tastes terrible or make something ugly that tastes great?

4) Forget to preheat oven or forget to bring ingredients to room temperature.

5) Have to measure ingredients by eye or have to guess how long things have been in the oven?

6) Win a national baking award or create a recipe that gets handed down for generations?

7) Mix everything by hand or wash all dishes by hand.

I asked my husband these questions and it was interesting to hear the differences between a cook (him) and a baker (me.) So here we go…

  1. Would you rather cut out butter forever or sugar? This one is a tough one! I use butter for so many things with cooking, but I use sugar for baking. I think I would have to cut out butter. I know, I know sugar is bad for you but baking treats/snacks is so yummy. If I could use half the amount of sugar and half the amount of butter for the rest of my life, I would totally do that.
  2. Would you rather have a normal size oven that heats inconsistently or have a toaster oven that bakes everything perfectly? I would like to have a normal size oven that heats inconsistently because if you had a toaster oven, there would be now way to make a turkey or casserole dishes. I know it might take forever, but I think I would be able to make more things.
  3. Would you rather make something beautiful that tastes terrible or make something ugly that tastes great? Absolutely without a doubt I would make something ugly that tastes great. I would never be able eat anything that tasted terrible. If I knew my food tasted delicious but looked hideous, I would let people know.
  4. Would you rather forget to preheat the oven or forget to bring ingredients to room temperature? I forget to do both fairly regularly, but one annoys me more than the other. Food items take so much longer to reach room temperature than an oven takes to preheat. So I would rather forget to preheat the oven.
  5. Would you rather have to measure ingredients by eye or have to guess how long things have been in the oven? I’m a pretty good “eyeballer” for measuring items out, so I would choose that. If I had to guess oven timing, I think there would be a lot of under cooked food or burnt meals.
  6. Would you rather win a national baking award or create a recipe that gets handed down for generations? This one is no contest. I would rather make a recipe that gets handed down for generations. I have some of my grandma’s and great grandma’s recipes and those are so special to me. Now they are gone, but it still feels like I have an attachment to them. I always bake my Christmas recipes and think of them.
  7. Would you rather mix everything by hand or wash all dishes by hand? This one is also tough. I usually wash most of the dishes, but when I am tired I just stick them in the dishwasher. On the other hand there are some things that need to be mixed by a blender. However, I think in the end it would take a shorter amount of time to mix everything by hand so I would choose that.

I love the “would you rather” game and am interested to see the other answers. What does the amazing Brenda Margriet have to say about her choices? Continue on the hop and find out. Until next time!
