Welcome everyone! It’s finally February. It felt like January was a whole year! It just never ended. I still have a lot of items on my to do list before I start coaching again. We start up in March and I’m just not ready. I hope this year isn’t super hot. Last year was such a mild summer here in California that I’m afraid it will be waaaay too hot this next year.
Today we’re asked to share a work in progress. Here is something that I’ve written for a short 250 word contest. I think I could turn this into a real story somehow.
Leera knelt on the moss in the mist shrouded hollow. Moonlight wove silver braids through the branches. Even before she lay a hand on the ground, her magic knew. The land was dying.
A flash of lightening announced Seros, the fiercest warrior angel. Stomping into the glade, his temper flared brighter than his sword.
“What are you trying to do, witch? The battle is lost,” he thundered, blade gleaming in his hand.
“Some call you the angel of death.” Leera tilted her head, her amber eyes tearing through his soul. “Yet, there is more to you than blood.”
“This damage can’t be repaired,” he growled, wings flaring.
“I’ve read prophecies that can heal what you’ve done.”
Seros dipped his head. “There is nothing that can undue this pain I’ve caused.”
“There is good inside your soul.”
“You see my soul? For I cannot,” he whispered.
“I have the nurturing power, but it also requires you.”
“What can a fallen angel possibly do?”
Leera held out her hand. “Trust me.”
Heat zinged through his body as he laced his fingers with hers.
She placed their intertwined hands on the ground. “To heal the land, combine one touch of death and one of nurturing.”
A pulse of blinding golden light spread through him, then outward erasing the gloom and death.
Seros dropped his sword to the earth, shame and awe softening his features. “Your tranquility won the battle I could not.”
Leera smiled. “Nurturing isn’t a battle, it’s a promise.”
Well that’s my short work for you all. Continue on the hop to see what the incredible Leslie Hachtel has to share. Until next time!
