Welcome to the blog hop and Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone is having fun prepping for the big day of eating. If you’ve missed what the lovely C.L. Marcolini had to say just click and pop back.
Today the amazing C.L. Marcolini asks us: It’s just not Thanksgiving if there’s no _____ on the table. Share the recipe and a memory about dinners with family.
In our family it’s just not Thanksgiving without apple pie! We have always had apple pie as long as I can remember. It’s been a recipe in my family for at least four generations. The filling might be the same as everyone else’s apple pie, but the crust is special.
I will share the filling recipe with you, but the crust I must keep a secret as it is my family’s. 🙂
APPLE PIE FILLING:
*8 medium size apples peeled
*3/4 cups sugar
*1-2 T flour
*1 tsp cinnamon plus a dash extra
*Dash of cloves or nutmeg
*1 T brown sugar
*Squirt of lemon
DIRECTIONS:
-Mix above ingredients together and let sit in a bowl while making pie crust.
-Line a pie plate with one dough.
-Place pie filling in pie dish.
-Cut up 6 pieces of butter and place on top of apple mixture.
-Place remaining dough on top and pinch edges together.
-Sprinkle sugar on top and poke holes.
-Bake 450 for 10-15 minuets then reduce heat to 350 for 45 minuets.
-Cut up and enjoy with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!
Now for the family memory. We have a small family with just four of us, but whenever Thanksgiving came we would always have some sort of family join us. Sometimes it was grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Our house was full of life and love. When we moved to Canada we started our own tradition. We made the turkey, stuffing and pie, our friends would make all the side fixings.
This year we are hosting again and we have both sets of parents coming, aunts and uncles, 14 people total! It should be fun and I can’t wait.
Let’s see what the wonderful Leslie Hachtel can’t have Thanksgiving without. Continue on the hop and find out, until next time!
