Romance Writers Weekly ~ Refreshing Plots

Welcome to the blog hop! What comes with kids going back to school? GERMS! All the germs. My daughter has a cough and my son caught covid. I can’t believe we’ve already gotten sick. I’m hoping that means it won’t hit too bad this winter.

I had the chance to enter a writing contest this past weekend and I had 500 words to write a romantic comedy with bargaining as the action and perfume as the object. I hope I did okay as I won’t hear back for a couple of months!

Today we talk about How to keep your romance plots fresh and exciting, especially when writing a series?

Well, I’ve never written a series before. I think I would like to, but sometimes my ideas don’t flow. I think to keep things fresh you can use the same setting like a bed and breakfast, school or city.

I’ve started watching this show on Netflix called Love Life and so for each season it follows a different main character, but the characters know each other. It’s an interesting plot and I like watching one character find their person and then the next main character find theirs.

If I wrote a series I think I would want the main characters to know each other somehow. Then the next book comes along and those main characters are tied to the previous ones. So on and so forth. I think it would be hard to write 3 or 4 books with the same characters throughout. Kudos to the authors that can do that.

That’s it for me today. Now continue on the hop to see what the incredible Leslie Hachtel has to say about plots in a series. Until next time!
