Romance Writers Weekly ~ New Year, New Goals

Happy New Year! Welcome back to the blog hop. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday with their loved ones! It was a busy time of year for us. We baked cookies, went ice skating and spent a lot of time with my parents and my in-laws. I think everyone got what they wanted for Christmas. My 3 year old wanted a rocket ship so we got her this magnetic one so she could build different ones and her comment was “I can’t fit inside.” Well I guess we could have made one from a box!

Today we are asked:

Did you make a New Years Resolution? Have you stuck to it so far?

I did make some goals this year! The first one was do a triathlon. Just a sprint one where the swim is about 500-700 meters, 13k bike and a 5k run. I’ve got the swim down because that’s what I’ve been doing since I was ten. I think I would be okay on the bike because we’ve done family bike rides that are eleven to twelve miles long. It’s the run that will be the hard part for me. I’m not the strongest runner and it’s at the end of the race. So I have some planning to do, but I’m excited.

My second goal was to not raise my voice as much to my kids. We’re at the point where my son reaaaaally likes to push my buttons and he doesn’t always listen. So I’ve been reading some books and walking away when I need a break.

One of my other goals is to write more. I’d like to do more writing contests and writing some more on my own work. My next writing contest is coming up in a couple of weeks. It’s a short story about 2500 words and they give you a genre, location and word. Sometimes it’s been very interesting with the genre assigned for you. I’ve had to step way out of my romantic world, although somehow bits and pieces enter in even if it’s a horror genre.

My last goal was to declutter my house this year! I know I have young kids and they have STUFF, but I think some of it needs to go. I want to donate a lot or send it to a person that needs it. I have to take it slow or I will get overwhelmed. Maybe one room at a time or one section, something like that.

Well those are my goals for this year. Let’s see what resolutions the amazing PG Forte has made for herself. That’s it for me, until next time!

Just Another Day

This FREE Valentine’s Day collection is available through Bookfunnel–but for a limited time only. It includes the short story: Put a Ring Around the Rosie

February 14th is just another day…until it isn’t.

They say timing is everything, and that certainly has always been the case where Alex and I are concerned. We were friends for a while, and then we weren’t. And when we reconnected with each other last month it was after a prolonged period of hurt feelings and miscommunication during which we barely spoke to each other at all.

Now, our friendship’s caught fire, so to speak, but I feel like we’re both still recovering from that last, disconnected phase. Heaping a bunch of unrealistic expectations, or a need for chocolate hearts, plush toys, or rose colored anything on top of that seems like a little too much added pressure.
