Romance Writer’s Weekly- My Most Valuable Information

Welcome to this week’s blog hop! If you celebrate Easter, I hope everyone had a fantastic one. We kept ours low key and went to grandma and grandpa’s for brunch and to hide Easter eggs for our 2.5 year old. He had so much fun opening the eggs and finding cheese, pirate booty and goldfish. Then we watched his all time favourite movie at the moment, Mary Poppins. I can now recite the whole movie from beginning to end.

Diverse in what we write, we all come together for romance. So if you missed what the lovely A.S. Fenichel had to say, just click and pop back.

Today the talented Leslie Hachtel asks us: What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned about writing. Who did you learn it from?

I’ve received many valuable pieces of information over the years of being a writer. One of the most important is: get your story written out! You can go back and change it later, but if you don’t have anything written you can’t change it.

Many fellow authors have told me this time and time again. I have the problem of writing something then hating it. I tend to go back, erase and try to write something different. This slows me down so much. So no matter how painful it is for me to write and keep it there, I need to do it.

One of my best friends and fellow author Victoria Barbour has given me great advice about sentence length. She’s told me: Read them out loud. What you want is a nice variation of sentences. A short one. A couple of short ones and a long one. Maybe a medium.

That has helped me tremendously. That way I have a nice flow and nothing is too long or too stunted.

What advice has the wonderful Brenda Margriet received? Continue on the hop and find out. Until next time.

Brenda’s novel When Time Falls Still is nominated for a RONE award! Be sure to vote May 15-21 at www.indtale.com to help make it to the next round. Look for it in the “Cops, Jocks and Cowboys” Category. If you hadn’t had a chance to read it yet, it is now on sale for only 99 cents!
