Romance Writers Weekly ~ Keeping Creative

Hello and welcome to November! I can’t believe it’s the second to last month of the year. Honestly, where did the year go? I feel like I did many things and nothing all at the same time. I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween. my youngest wasn’t feeling well so I just took her around the block then went out later with my son. She dressed up as Rapunzel and he was dressed as Mario. Both of them had a lot of fun!

If you missed what the wonderful Leslie Hachtel had to say just click and pop back.

Today we are asked: How do you stay creative? How do you feed your muse? What tips and tricks do you recommend to stay in the creative zone?

That is a big question considering some days it’s very hard for me to stay creative. It’s something that I’ve always struggled with. I find that when I lived in St. John’s it was a very creative place and I didn’t have a problem feeding my muse. Since moving back to California I find it a lot harder and I have no clear idea why.

I’ve entered a lot of writing contests to help me continue writing. The most recent one I’ve done is a 1000 word rhyming challenge. That one was really interesting and I loved it! They will assign you a genre, specific word and an action or a thought that has to be put into the story. It really gets me out of my romance comfort zone. Not once have I received the romance genre. I’ve gotten horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and comedy.

I find writing poetry helps me to stay creative. It gets a lot of my feelings out when I can’t express them out loud. One day I hope to publish a book of my poetry.

To stay creative, I’ve heard that you should read anything and everything you can get your hands on. Also to write everyday even if it’s only 10 words. I’d love to see what other tips and tricks I can get from my fellow authors!

That’s it for me today. Now continue on the hop to see what the amazing PG Forte does to stay creative. Until next time!
