Hello and welcome to the hop! I hope everyone had a great week. Ours was busy with the last swim meet for the season and I was running around trying to get everyone to their races. My son had a great time with his friends and they ran around crazy. I substituted my daughter’s class on Halloween and that was pretty fun, however I think I caught a cold from all those snotty first graders.
This is our topic today: What’s your take on the “enemies-to-lovers” trope? How do you make this dynamic feel fresh and believable?
I absolutely love enemies-to-lovers! It’s one of my favourite tropes. You can really change it up a lot of ways. They can know each other from the past, or just freshly meet, they might have someone in common, but they still can’t stand each other. There are so many possibilities.
I think you can make it fresh by out of the box thinking or the characters meet and instantly dislike each other. I’ve recently watched two shows on Netflix and they’ve been enemies to lovers. One is where a woman falls back in time and she becomes a head cook for a king. I won’t spoil too much, but their path is a great one. The other one I watched was a hotel concierge meets the owner and they don’t get along, but in the end they fall for each other.
Like I said, there are so many great ideas out there, and it’s one trope that I will always read. That’s it for me today, now continue on the hop to see what the amazing Leslie Hachtel thinks about enemies-to-lovers. Until next time!
