Good morning! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break if you were in the U.S. The kids were home for a week, and we had a good mix of relaxing and going out to do things. We usually host both of our families and it was a great time. We make the turkey, stuffing, brussel sprouts and pies, then the rest of our family brings everything else! It makes it really easy and enjoyable.
Today we’re writing! It’s December! Share a festive scene that you wrote. It can be something brand new or from an existing story.
The biter cold air nipped at her nose and sunk into her bones. Another gust of wind sent Hunter deeper into her coat. This miserable weather made her even more grumpy. She’d had to go out into this blizzard because her best friend needed a certain type of broth for her soup. Could she have gone out and gotten it? Nope. Cam said he had to stay at the stove, so it had to be Hunter.
Hunter groaned as each forward step she took, sunk deeper into the icy snow. The bag of broth banging into her side. Her whole body felt numb. This time her foot lodged in the snow and stuck, Hunter dropped to her knees and tried to tug her foot out of the crevasse. She gritted her teeth as cold wet patches grew on her knees, then pulled as hard as she could. Out popped her foot with no shoe. Hunter tried to dig for her boot, but her fingers were too numb.
She needed to get out of the cold before she froze to death. A tall man stalked toward her, his face buried beneath a combination of a scarf, jacket and hat. There was no other person in sight. Unease curled in her stomach, but he would have to do.
“Do you mind helping me?” she called out, teeth chattering. “I’ve lost my boot and I’m half frozen.”
The man mumbled something under his breath and reached out a gloved hand. As Hunter placed her hand in his, he gripped her tightly and pulled her up out of the snow. Hunter gasped as she was roughly brought up against what felt like a hard wall of stone. How many layers did this guy have on? Or was he really just that well muscled?
Her heart pounded in her chest as he began pulling her down the street. “What are you doing? she shouted through the wind.
She didn’t know this man, he might drag her off and chop her up into tiny pieces. Hunter tried to pull out of his grasp, but he continued to drag her into an alleyway.
He reached for a door and gave her a slight nudge inside. Warmth blasted her face in the darkness, but fear crept down her spine. It was so dark. She should have just stayed in the snow and froze, that would have been a better way to go.
The man let go of her and Hunter blindly reached for the door, but she couldn’t find it. A moment later the lights blazed on. She closed her eyes against the harsh glare.
“Ple… please don’t kill me,” she trembled under his glare and she sank to the floor. Hard stone bit into her knees.
He unwrapped his scarf, took off his hat and unzipped his coat. “Why would I kill you” he asked in a gruff voice.
“Maybe because you dragged me into an alleyway and I have no idea who you are or what you were going to do to me!”
He glanced down at her. “I told you I was bringing you somewhere warm to keep out of the weather.”
“I couldn’t hear anything over that howling wind.”
“I’m sorry I gave you a scare. Are you okay now? Can I make you a coffee or tea?” he asked.
Hunter stared into his sapphire eyes and her breath caught. His eyes were such a deep blue, she felt like she was drowning in them.
“I…I like coffee. You have coffee? Where are we?” Hunter glanced around.
He turned on another light and put some water on to boil. “We’re at Press and Beans. I own it.”
Hunter’s mouth dropped open as she took in the cafe. It was decorated for the holidays with tinsel, snowmen and a Christmas tree adorned the corner.
“Come sit in front of the fire so you can warm up.” He reached for her hand and flames licked her chilled body.
“What’s your name?” she asked.
He smiled and heat pooled low in her belly.
“It’s Cam,” he replied with a smile that lit up his gorgeous eyes.
I’ll leave the rest up to you! It felt good to sit and write a little scene. I haven’t done that in a while. Continue on the hop to see the incredible PG Forte’s festive scene. Until next time!
