Welcome everyone to the blog hop! Last week was Thanksgiving for us U.S. folks. We had 16 people over at our house including our family. I love to host Thanksgiving. It’s so nice to have everyone here. Each guest will usually bring something; an appetizer, side to the main meal, or drinks so we aren’t making all the food. We had a great feed this year with only two days of leftovers. That’s a first for us.
Here’s todays topic:
Many cultural and religious holidays are celebrated in December. Discuss the importance and impact of diverse characters and relationships in your stories.
I think it’s important to have diverse characters because we are not all one same person. Different experiences and cultures, help us understand and have a broad view of the people around us. It gives us a chance to respect and understand other cultures, something of which has been lacking in the last couple of years. People fall in love with different people and that’s what makes the world such a unique place. We get to learn about each other and how everyone’s culture plays into their everyday lives.
It would get boring if everyone celebrated one holiday. There wouldn’t be a uniqueness that we need to have. It’s important to me to make sure my kids learn that people celebrate different holidays and not everyone celebrates Christmas. I want them to understand others have different customs or traditions.
I like to write diverse characters, that way they can agree or argue about things and the writing doesn’t become dull.
Because we have friends and family members that celebrate different holidays, when I make my Christmas cards, I try to find a saying that says Happy Holidays or Joy to All.
That’s it for me today, now continue on the hop to find out the wonderful Brenda Margriet’s opinion. Until next time!
