Welcome to the blog hop everyone! I hope it’s been a good week for you. My kids are on break right now. We had last week off and we have this week off as well. I’ve been trying to figure out fun things to do with them so we aren’t just stuck at home. I took them to the zoo, we’ve had a couple of lazy days at home. We explored the Bubble Museum which was pretty awesome! There was this pool of balls that you could just fall into. There were also lots of other interesting facts about bubbles. It was super cool!
We went up to this place called Apple Hill, which is almost to Tahoe. It’s all about the apples! Apple cider beer, champagne, wine, donuts, food. Pretty much anything apple they have it. It’s always so much fun to go. My kids had a blast going through the maze, but we missed the gem mining by 10 minutes. I think tomorrow we might drive to Santa Cruz to play at the beach.
Now, back to the hop! The question today is; how do you approach creating conflict in a romance novel without losing the emotional connection between characters.
I think the connection has to be strong for both the hero and the heroine. Yes, there’s always going to be conflict because that’s what moves a romance novel forward. If you don’t have a conflict, there really isn’t going to be a story.
I read a book once about the making of a romance novel and you have to have the meet cute, the falling in love, the dark moment of the night, the reconciliation and then the happy ever after. There were other elements I’m sure I’m forgetting, but those are the basics. So you have to have the dark moment, the conflict to make a story.
Maybe it’s a misconception between the characters, or it could be they are fighting about something. However, you have to create that conflict, otherwise it’s boring. If there’s love, there will always be an emotional connection.
That’s it for me today, continue on the hop to see what the incredible Jill Haymaker has to say about creating conflict. Until next time!
