Romance Writers Weekly ~ A Tasty Holiday Treat

Welcome to the crazy holiday season and thanks for joining us on today’s blog hop! We’ve finally got our Christmas tree up and decorated and can now enjoy the lights. This season is always a little stressful for me as we have to get gifts and the kids tend to go a little loopy with everything going on.

Today’s question is: What is the one dish or treat you can’t do without during the holiday season? If you make it yourself, share the recipe.

That’s an easy one for me! I always make my grandma’s Nanaimo Bars among other holiday cookies that have been in the family. Nanaimo Bars are soooo delicious and my absolute favourite! What’s not to love about a chocolate, coconut, graham cracker crumbs and walnut base, a cream/vanilla pudding center and a chocolate top! I can eat so many of these in a single setting it’s bad, haha!

The recipe has been made in my family for as long as I can remember. My grandma used to make it and my aunts and then my mom. Now it has been passed down to me. I have to make adjustments with the walnuts because my kids are allergic to nuts, so it’s been a challenge to find something with similar texture. One recipe says to add more graham cracker crumbs but that makes it a little dry. I need to find something nut texture with oils so it can bind the base together.

I also started making this new to me recipe since living in St. John’s. They are called Moose Farts! These are also super tasty. They are small balls of coconut, flour and mini chocolate chips among other ingredients. I will share the recipe below. Give them a try! I know these will be in my family for a long time. It’s exciting to know that I have created a recipe that will last through generations.

That’s it for me today, now continue on the hop to see what recipe the talented Leslie Hachtel is going to share. Until next time!
